Caroni 1% Flood Hazard Map

This map shows the 1% annual chance flood hazard in the Caroni River Basin. The 1% annual chance flood (also known as the 100-year flood) has a 1% chance of being equaled or exceeded in any given year. Flood hazard maps have many uses including risk assessment, urban planning, emergency response, and environmental protection. However, note that this map is not accurate and should not be used for any planning/development purposes. This is just a Proof-of-Concept to demonstrate what this interface may look like.

The floodplain was developed using Two-Dimensional Rain-on-Mesh HEC-RAS and includes both fluvial and pluvial flooding. Depths under 0.15m (0.5ft) are not shown.

How to Use the Map

Zoom and pan to the area of interest
Use the layer control in the top right to swtich basemaps and toggle the floodplain and watersheds layers
Click on the watersheds to see the names and area
The 1% Flood Depth layer shows the maximum flooding depths (in feet) for the 1% annual chance flood event. This layer may take some time to load and is not available on mobile devices.
Rivers and labels will appear on zoom. Not all river features are labelled.
Area outside of the Caroni River basin are shown in grey as data has not been developed
